All-state teams announced
Mt. Pleasant’s Ethan Beasley and Tari Frierson were among the players named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A all-state football team, which was released this week.
Beasley, a junior linebacker/defensive end, finished the Tigers’ 8-3 campaign with 90 total tackles and a pair of sacks to earn his second straight Region 5-1A defensive player of the year honor as well as TSWA all-state recognition for the third consecutive season.
Frierson, a senior defensive tackle, posted 73 total tackles with four sacks, along with 12 quarterback hurries, an interception, six forced fumbles, two recoveries, a pair of blocked punts and a blocked field goal to help Mt. Pleasant to the Class 1A state playoffs for the second time in as many years.
Other area honorees include Forrest’s Nick McClendon and Tate Garvin, Lewis County’s Preston Perdue and Eagleville’s Trevor Griffin in Class 2A.
The TSWA all-state teams for Classes 4A-6A were announced earlier this week; the Division II teams will be announced later this week.
