Georgia's Cade Mays will transfer to Tennessee Vols, join brother Cooper, per report

Georgia's Cade Mays, a former Knoxville Catholic standout, has entered the transfer portal and is headed to Tennessee, joining his brother Cooper on the Vols, according to ESPN.

Mays, a sophomore, started 11 of 14 games for the Bulldogs this season.

Entering the portal does not mean a player is definitely transferring, but it is the first step that allows other coaches to contact the player. If Mays transfers to an FBS school, he would have to sit out next season, per NCAA transfer rules, unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA allowing him to play immediately.

An undergraduate, intraconference transfer who receives an NCAA waiver would still need a waiver from the SEC to receive immediate eligibility, a conference official confirmed.

Mays was a five-star recruit at Knoxville Catholic and was the No. 1 ranked recruit in the state in the Class of 2018 and No. 22 ranked recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. Mays was named the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award winner in Class 5A as a senior in 2017.

Georgia's offensive line coach, Sam Pittman, was hired as Arkansas head coach in December. Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney was Georgia's offensive coordinator during Mays' freshman year.

Mays' younger brother, Cooper, is an early enrollee at Tennessee and played on the offensive line at Knoxville Catholic.

Their father, Kevin Mays, is a former Vols guard and captain who played at Tennessee from 1991-94.

Mays, who is 6-foot-6 and 318 pounds, committed to Tennessee in July 2015 but then decommited in November 2017. He signed with Georgia a month later.
