The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 59-23 on the road Friday for their 11th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets dominated a majority of the game as a big drive to end the first half gave them an insurmountable edge against their district opponent.
The teams traded 6-0 runs throughout the first quarter with the Lady Hornets coming out ahead when the period ended. Ashtyn Danley scored eight of Huntland’s 12 points in the first quarter.
They led 12-6 after one quarter.
While the Bulldogs kept the game close through the first few minutes of the second quarter, the Lady Hornets ended the half on a 17-0 run to turn the game into a blowout.
They led 33-11 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets remained in control of the action in the third quarter with the Lady Bulldogs unable to match up with their scoring pace.
The Lady Hornets led 55-19 going into the final period.
The Lady Hornets slowed the game down in the fourth quarter with the result already decided as they won by 36 points.
Danley led the Lady Hornets with 24 points for the game, followed by Anna Stevenson with 11 points and Megan Tipps and Brooklyn Morris with nine points each.
Mikaylie Edwards, Tori Schultz and Diamond Tate scored two points each.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 11-7 on the season and 1-0 in district play.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Eagleville High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
