The Rossview Lady Hawks basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped on Jan. 9, losing at Henry County 47-46. The loss was their first since late November.
But Rossivew rebounded on Tuesday, Jan. 14 by defeating Springfield 53-14. The Yellow Jackets entered the game after beating White House the night before on a last-second shot from Caroline Watts.
Springfield coach Kelli Reed said a lack of fortitude lead to the lopsided defeat: “When you’re back-to-back like tonight, you’ve got to be mentally tough, and we weren’t. I think the mental aspect of (Rossview) got to us. We’re still learning and figuring stuff out.”
Rossview began the evening on a 9-0 run spanning over the first three minutes of the game. Springfield found slight momentum throughout the rest of the quarter, holding the Lady Hawks to 15 by the end of one.
“I’m sure that plays a factor,” Rossview Justin Woods said of Springfield’s fatigue. “Monday games are hard, and then to follow that with a district game, I think that’s tough to do. I’ve seen Springfield play a couple of times – they score at a pretty decent clip. I thought we were locked in (defensively) and played pretty well.”
The second quarter began with another 9-0 Rossview run, and the Hawks limited the Yellow Jackets to one made field goal in the second quarter. At the end of three quarters, Rossview’s lead had inflated to 31, allowing the clock to run for the final frame.
Springfield (4-14, 3-5 District 10-AAA) was off Friday but will travel to Henry County on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
