The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Fayetteville City Lady Tigers 64-48 on the road Tuesday for their 14th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets maintained a steady lead throughout the game and pulled away in the fourth quarter as they remained undefeated in district play for the year and brought their winning streak up to seven games.
The lead changed hands a few times in the opening period with the Lady Hornets holding the lead when the quarter ended. Anna Stevenson scored 10 of Huntland’s 18 points in the first quarter.
They led 18-14 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to create some breathing room on the scoreboard through the rest of the first half.
They led 32-21 at halftime.
The Lady Tigers cut the lead down to as few as four points in the third quarter, but the Lady Hornets ended the period on an 8-1 run to bring their advantage back up to double digits. Ashtyn Danley scored 10 of Huntland’s 17 points in the third quarter.
They led 49-38 going into the final period.
The Lady Hornets opened the fourth quarter on a 14-2 run which clinched the victory for them as they went on to win by 16 points.
Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 26 points for the game, followed by Danley and Mikaylie Edwards with 15 points each.
Logan McLennan scored five points, Camille Bland scored two and Brooklyn Morris scored one.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 14-7 on the season and 4-0 in district play.
They will next play Friday at Cascade High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
