The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 79-66 at home Tuesday for their 16th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets dominated through the first three quarters of the game and cruised through the fourth quarter to bring their winning streak up to nine games.
The Lady Hornets built an early lead, but the Lady Bulldogs kept it close throughout the first period.
The Lady Hornets led 14-11 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets opened the second quarter with a 21-2 run which would create a majority of their advantage for the rest of the day. Junior Anna Stevenson hit a mid-range jumper early in the second quarter which gave her 1,000 career points as a member of the Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets led 46-24 at halftime.
The starters for the Lady Hornets would be pulled from the game midway through the third quarter with the backups for Huntland maintaining the lead.
They led 71-47 going into the final period.
The Lady Bulldogs made a dent in the lead throughout the fourth quarter, but the Lady Hornets never let their advantage sink below double digits as they won by 13 points.
Brooklyn Morris led the Lady Hornets with 18 points for the game, followed by Stevenson and Mikaylie Edwards with 13 points each.
Ashtyn Danley scored 12 points, Megan Tipps scored six, Logan McLennan scored four, Camille Bland scored three, and Tori Schultz, Dara Jernigan, MaKayla Tipton and Diamond Tate scored two points each.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 16-7 on the season and 6-0 in district play.
They will next play Friday at Eagleville High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
