The Tennessee high school state swim meet is Friday and Saturday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the University of Tennessee's campus.

Here are five things to know about the event.

Important times

There are preliminary and final events on both days.

Preliminary swimming competitions begin at 9:30 a.m. and diving preliminaries and semifinals begin at 2 p.m. Finals, followed by awards ceremonies, will begin at 6 p.m.

The boys diving competitions will be held on Friday, while the girls will dive on Saturday.

Baylor looks to continue dominance

Baylor has placed in first in the combined team score each year since 2008.

Last year Baylor finished with a combined score of 543.5. Maryville was the second-place finisher at 364.

Baylor's girls took first place with 320 points while the boys placed third with a score of 223.5.

Maryville hopes to get over the hump

Maryville could be the Knoxville area school with the best chance to take home first-place honors.

Maryville has placed second in each of the past two years, the top mark out of Knoxville area teams, and one of just two schools from the area, with Hardin Valley, to finish in the top 10 in both years.

Amy Van Son of Maryville swims in the women’s 200 yard medley in the Knox-area Interscholastic Swim League championships at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020.

The boys finished in second place at 231 and the girls finished fourth at 133.

Swimmers to watch

Alex Walsh and Gretchen Walsh from Harpeth Hall are two of the top swimmers in the state. Alex is the top seed in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. She has won six individual state titles that past three seasons.

Gretchen is the top seed in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. She has four individual state titles in the past two seasons.

Senior Nicholas Cassell from Berean Christian won the 1-meter dive last year, finishing with 517.10 points. Senior Jacob Reasor from Clinton placed second in the same event with 502.60 points.
