The Franklin County Rebels beat the Lawrence County Wildcats 73-71 on the road Thursday for their 13th win of the season.
The contest was close throughout with the Rebels holding off the Wildcats in the final seconds to secure their fourth straight district victory.
The first quarter set the tone for the rest of the day with both teams trading baskets early.
The Rebels led 17-14 after one quarter.
The Rebels increased their offensive pace in the second quarter as they began to pull further away before the end of the half.
They led 36-26 at halftime.
However, the Wildcats began to flip the scoreboard in the third quarter as the Rebels found themselves trailing by a margin of 51-50 going into the final period.
The Wildcats went on a 14-5 run midway through the fourth quarter to take a 10-point lead with four minutes remaining. The Rebels were able to chip away at the deficit before taking the lead in the final minute on a shot by Sumo Scaife.
The Wildcats had the ball with a chance to tie or win the game with four seconds to play, but the Rebels were able to fend them off to win by two points.
Scaife led the Rebels with 20 points for the game, followed by Mason Mitchell with 16 points and Devean Shockley and Ke’Andre Johnson with 11 points each.
Jamal Blackwell scored eight points, Na’Zaiyah Holman and Kane Reed scored three points each, and Aydan Yates scored one point.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 13-14 on the season and 7-5 in district play.
They will next play Monday against Columbia Central High School at Lincoln County High School in a quarterfinal game for their district tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
