Joe Anderson stood at the foul line at Alcoa, under one minute left in what would be an 87-76 win for the Rebels. Maryville's student section cheered, the Rebels' bench stood, many fans pulled out their phones.

Anderson made the free throw, which made him the school's career leading scorer. Maryville's senior guard, who this week became a TSSAA Mr. Basketball finalist for Class AAA, passed former Maryville guard Lee Humphrey.

Anderson, a Furman signee, has 2,258 career points. Humphrey, who graduated from Maryville in 2004, played at Florida and won two straight national championships with the Gators, had 2,257 career points.

Despite breaking the record in the gym of his school's biggest rival, Alcoa let Anderson keep the game ball, which he used to score a team-high 31 points.

Anderson is averaging 23 points, five assists and 2.7 steals this season.
