The Greenbrier girls basketball team has won two District 9-AA games this season.

Both have come against White House.

The Lady Bobcats used a 22-point outing from Emma Disney to down the Lady Blue Devils 54-47 before Tuesday’s Senior Night celebration. Greenbrier won the first meeting 56-47 on Jan. 14.

“We knew that this one was going to be tougher than the first one,” Greenbrier coach Brianna Gillen said. “We knew they were going to come out here and apply a lot of ball pressure, which is what got them back in it (last time). White House played really well, but we were able to score just a little more.”

Disney scored 10 points in the first quarter to give Greenbrier a 19-9 lead. The Lady Bobcats led 33-25 at halftime.

“She just has some kind of will in her,” Gillen said of Disney. “She wants to score every time she touches (the ball).”

Greenbrier sophomore guard Alyssa Davis tailled 11 points before getting in foul trouble. Avery Droz (14 points) and Emma Wall (13) carried the White House offense.

The Lady Blue Devils (6-15) continued their struggles in District 9-AA. After starting the season 5-4, White House has dropped 11 of its last 12, including 10 district contests.

“We’re very similar teams, honestly,” Gillen said. “They’re having some of the same problems that we are. (White House) is scoring more than we are – that’s been our struggle. But it wasn’t tonight.”

Greenbrier (10-17) honored seniors Kalya Conquest, Snowden Scott and Alie Wilson, who elected not to play this season after suffering multiple ACL injuries during her career.

Gillen first met the trio when she started as the head girls basketball coach at Greenbrier Middle School. She stayed with that group as an assistant high school coach before taking over for Carl Miller last fall.

“I’ve been around them since my day No. 1,” Gillen said. “I’ve gotten to watch them grow. They are awesome leaders, and I have no idea what we’re going to do without them.”

Greenbrier closed its regular season with a 47-40 loss at Sycamore on Friday. The Lady Bobcats earned the No. 6 seed for this week’s District 9-AA tournament, while White House took the No. 7 spot.
