The bad news for Eagleville's boys basketball team is that Class A Mr. Basketball finalist Ryley McClaran suffered an ankle injury during Thursday night's District 8-A semifinal win over Cascade.

The good news is X-rays came back negative for a fracture and McClaran has an ankle sprain, he tweeted Friday.

Even better news for the Eagles is that they will have a week off between Saturday's district finals and the start of Region 4-A play.

Still, Eagleville (22-6) will have to play rival Fayetteville in Saturday's league tournament championship game (7:30 tipoff at Huntland High) without McClaran and his 30 points a contest, and, depending on how quickly he recovers, possibly longer.

Eagleville coach Davy McClaran, who is also Ryley's father, said the 6-foot-2 senior guard would miss Saturday's district title game and would be "questionable" for next week. However, he said the team would have a week off before region play begins.

Coach McClaran said Ryley would be able to play when/if "pain subsides and he can tolerate lateral movement."

Ryley McClaran tweeted the positive results of his X-rays Friday and said he would "Be back soon!!"

Eagleville is attempting to reach the Class A state tournament for the second consecutive season. The Eagles reached the state semifinals last year.

The Eagles have split with Fayetteville this season, falling 68-57 on Jan. 24 and winning 57-52 on Feb. 11. McClaran scored 27 in each of those games.

Fellow senior guard Nuni Davenport stepped up with 15 points during Thursday's semifinals, a game in which McClaran scored 21 before the injury.
