Springfield basketball teams eliminated at Henry County

The postseason did not last long for either of the Springfield High School basketball teams.

The Lady Jackets were eliminated in a 57-38 loss at Henry County on Thursday. The Springfield boys were also topped on the road by Henry County, 70-48, on Friday.

The Springfield girls trailed just 21-17 at halftime, but a 22-point third quarter from Henry County turned the game into a rout. Senior forward Zetta Reams led the Lady Jackets with 15 points. Elizabeth Funk added eight, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Springfield finished its season with an 8-20 record (6-10 District 10-AAA) under first-year head coach Kelli Reed. The team graduates five players including Funk, Reams, Anna Kate Head, Katie Rhodes and Olivia Tejeda.

The following night, the Springfield boys also struggled offensively. The Yellow Jackets managed just 12 points by halftime and entered the break down 20 points. Henry County’s John Odoms led all scorers with 24 points.

Sophomore Keyshawn Robinson carried Springfield with 18 points. Senior Noah Waltz (12) and junior Savion Scott (11) also finished in double figures.

After starting its season 1-9, Springfield went 11-7 post-Christmas to finish 12-16 overall (6-10 District 10-AAA). Besides Waltz, the Yellow Jackets also lose seniors Will Smith and Cole Van Vleet to graduation.
