Alcoa defensive end Grey Carroll commits to Georgia Tech

Grey Carroll, Alcoa's defensive end who helped the Tornadoes win the Class 3A state championship in 2019, committed to Georgia Tech. He announced his decision Friday morning on Twitter.

Carroll is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports Composite. He had offers from Arkansas State, Boston College, Ohio University, Tulane and Memphis, among others. 

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Carroll was the player of the year for Region 2-3A and was a finalist for the Class 3A Mr. Football award in 2019. He recorded 79.5 total tackles and 16 sacks and was a force on a defense that posted 10 shutouts. 

Alcoa, led by coach Gary Rankin, the state's all-time leader in wins with 439, won its fifth straight state tile last season, shutting out Pearl-Cohn 27-0, claiming its state-leading 18th state championship. The Tornadoes finished the season 14-1. Carroll recorded four total tackles and three tackles for loss in the game.
