Eric "Cowboy" Robinson was a junior on the first Hamilton boys basketball team to win a state title in 1991. He later began his coaching career there with a six-year stint as an assistant coach from 1999-2005.

Now 15 years later, Robinson is returning as Hamilton's boys basketball coach, he confirmed to the Commercial Appeal.

"I’m looking forward to going back to the halls that I walked," Robinson said. "I played there, that’s where I started coaching. I’m just excited to go back over there and help my community out."

Eric "Cowboy" Robinson is head coach at Hamilton High School

Robinson has been coaching high school basketball in the area for over two decades with stops at Lausanne, Olive Branch, Raleigh-Egypt and Power Center Academy. Last year he was head coach at Lowrance Middle School. He also runs Team Magic Elite, an AAU team that plays on the Adidas circuit.

Robinson played two and a half years at Southern University at New Orleans before transferring to Memphis. But he never got to play for the Tigers due to injury.

"I transferred back to Memphis to play for Larry Finch but I tore my ACL and that’s when it all started with all the injuries and stuff," Robinson said. "So I never did get a chance to play for Memphis State and that’s when I started coaching and training kids."
