Lost Season: McKenzie High School Softball

Posted

The COVID-19 pandemic and the battle to contain it has led to changes in nearly every aspect of daily life, and one of the most noticeable has been the absence of spring sports from our parks and schools.
The McKenzie High School softball team played just one game before the season was suspended in mid-March and then ultimately canceled.
Head Coach Kristi Brown told The Banner, “The abrupt ending of the season was shocking to all. We were all hoping somehow, some way we would be back for districts, but obviously that did not happen. This year’s team is a group of girls that have grown up playing softball. They have so much talent and drive and desire to play the game. They were determined to make it to state and I believed them! My heart absolutely breaks for them. There is nothing anyone can say or do to get this season back for them.”
The 2020 Lady Rebels include seniors Desteyanna Allen, Karli Brown, Jenna Tucker and Camille Travis; junior Lilly Bennett; sophomores Jaden Barton and Anna Robinson; and freshmen Briley Auvenshine, Kassidy Brown, Madison Gilbert, Peyton Ognibene and Katie Chesser.
