White Station defensive back Gregory Rubin announced Friday that he committed to Memphis. Rubin is the Tigers' fourth commitment in the 2021 class.

"I feel like I have a great relationship with the coaching staff and that Memphis is the best fit for me to grow and develop as a player," Rubin said. "Memphis has always had a place in my heart since I was little. It’s home to me."

Rubin — a three-star recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings — made the announcement on Twitter and chose the Tigers over offers from Tennessee, LSU, Vanderbilt and Duke, among others. His offers from Tennessee and LSU came in March, but he decided to stay home.

"Memphis is a winning program now," Rubin said. "We’ve been put on the map. That helped with my decision, knowing I’ll get some exposure.

Rubin, who also plays wide receiver, is the first local player to commit to the Tigers for 2021. He was a Commercial Appeal All-Metro third-team selection last season and is ranked No. 23 in Tennessee.

He has over 40 tackles on the season with three interceptions and returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown.

Rubin is the second prospect this week to commit to Memphis. On Sunday, the Tigers received a commitment from junior college defensive linemen Myron Green.

Memphis' class is ranked 63rd nationally.
