Oakland football has added an assistant with both head coaching experience and local ties.

Former Riverdale assistant and Moore County head coach Jason Dobbs will join the Patriot staff in the fall.

"It's been really difficult," said Dobbs, of the decision. "I love this community where I'm at and the people, but at the end of the day, you have to do what's best for the family. My wife and myself, both of our families live on the other side of Murfreesboro. They're two hours away right now."

It will be his second stint as an assistant under Oakland head coach Kevin Creasy. The first was from 2008-09 at Trousdale County. The two were assistants together for several years before that.

Jason Dobbs watches his Moore County squad compete during a recent game. Dobbs will be joining the Oakland football staff this fall.

"I'm glad to be reunited with a great coach and friend in (Dobbs)," Creasy said. "The Dobbs family will fit in perfect at Oakland."

Dobbs has two sons (Bryson, who is going into eighth grade, and Brett, who will be entering his senior season) who both play football.

"They both love Coach Creasy. ... They've known him their whole life," Dobbs said. "Not only have we coached together, but we're good friends. I know what to expect out of him and he knows what to expect out of me. It's a good opportunity all around."

Dobbs has been the head coach at Moore County since 2016. He took the Raiders to the Class 1A state playoffs twice in four years, including a second-round appearance and 8-4 record in 2017.

In four years with Moore County, Dobbs went 22-21.

Prior to that he was an assistant at Trousdale County for 13 years and then an assistant at Riverdale for six years. He coached the offensive line at both stops.

Creasy said he would coach tight ends at Oakland.
