Memphis defensive lineman Joseph Honeysucker is no longer on the roster and is done playing football, Tigers coach Ryan Silverfield confirmed Monday.

Silverfield said Honeysucker, a former three-star recruit from Nashville, decided to "hang up his cleats" and will remain on scholarship as a student. As of now, he is not intending to seek a transfer.

Honeysucker was a part of the Tigers' 2019 recruiting class but redshirted last season. During his senior year at Hillsboro, he won the William E. Hume Award, which is given to the Metro Nashville football player who best exemplifies scholarship, sportsmanship and individual performance.

"i appreciate EVERYONE that helped get me here. this was the best decision for me & the only thing i ask is that y'all respect it. MUCH LOVE FOR COACH SILVERFIELD & MY MEMPHIS FAMILY (sic)," Honeysucker said in a tweet.

The Tigers are deep at defensive line with returning starters O'Bryan Goodson and Joseph Dorceus along with returning veterans such as John Tate, Everitt Cunningham and Jalil Clemons.
