Grant Slatten has wanted to play college basketball at the SEC level his entire life.

Now, he will get that opportunity.

Slatten, a White County senior and 6-foot-6 shooting guard, committed to Ole Miss on Tuesday. He is Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis' second commitment for the Class of 2021.

"It's right for me so I went ahead and committed," Slatten said. "It's just a thrill. I'm ecstatic about it."

Slatten is the son of Bruce Slatten, who has coached at various schools including Culleoka, Perry County, Moore County and White County.

Slatten averaged 27 points per game last season. He also had offers from New Mexico, South Florida and Tennessee Tech.

He was a TSWA All-State boys basketball team member this past school year.

White County coach Eric Mitchell described Slatten as a smart player that can play above the rim as well as be a dynamic scorer.

"He's a 6-6 guard that is great in the transition and runs the floor well," Mitchell said. "He's a big-time dunker. His dad was a coach.

"He's a gym rat that knows the game and who at the high school level is a scoring machine."

Slatten joins Daeshun Ruffin, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi, as commitments for Ole Miss.

"I knew once I felt right about a school, I'd commit," Slatten said. "And Ole Miss is that school."

Commitments are non-binding for the athlete and the school. Slatten cannot sign until Nov. 11.
