The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Clarksville Northeast Eagles 73-64 at LEAD Academy Saturday in their second game for the Mike Mitchell Classic.
The Rebels fell behind early in the contest, and an attempted second-half rally would stall out in the last few minutes as they started the day with a loss.
The Eagles scored the first seven points and the last seven points of the opening period to create a decent early deficit for Franklin County.
The Rebels trailed 21-12 after one quarter.
The deficit remained steady throughout the second quarter as the Rebels kept pace with their opponent but weren’t able to make up any ground.
They trailed 39-27 at halftime. Kaleb Rigsby scored 17 points for Franklin County in the first half.
The Rebels went on a 15-4 run in the third quarter to make it a two-point game in the final minute of the period, but the Eagles added two quick baskets before the quarter ended to expand the lead again.
The Rebels trailed 51-45 going into the final period.
The Rebels tied the score twice early in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles pulled back ahead each time and iced the game with free throws to seal Franklin County’s nine-point loss.
Rigsby led the Rebels with 29 points for the game, followed by Sam Vincent with 14 points and Kenyon Fuqua with seven.
Aydin Horton and Ethan Stephens scored six points each, and Brandon Walker scored two points.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 0-4 on the season.
Munford 55, Rebels 25
The Rebels lost to the Munford Cougars 55-25 at LEAD Academy Saturday in their third and final game for the Mike Mitchell Classic.
The Rebels fell into a massive hole late in the first half and were not able to bounce back as they ended the event with a record of 0-3.
The score was tight through the end of the opening period with the Rebels taking an early lead before the Cougars ended the quarter with seven straight points.
Franklin County trailed 12-9 after one quarter.
Rigsby left the game with an apparent injury after taking a charge early in the second quarter, leaving the Rebels without one of their primary scoring options for the rest of the day.
The Cougars then took control of the game as they scored the last 15 points of the first half to grow the deficit to more than 20 points.
The Rebels trailed 37-15 at halftime.
A pair of baskets by Fuqua gave the Rebels their only points of the third quarter with the lead for Munford growing by a few more points.
Franklin County trailed 47-19 going into the final period.
The Rebels wouldn’t be able to make up any ground in the fourth quarter as they lost by a final margin of 30 points.
Fuqua led the Rebels with 10 points for the game, followed by Rigsby with five points and Stephens with four.
Vincent, Horton and Thomas Clark scored two points each.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 0-5 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Lincoln County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
