Andre Lott resigns as football coach, assistant athletics director at St. George's

Andre Lott is out as St. George’s football coach after five seasons.  

Lott, who served as football coach and assistant athletics director at St. George’s, resigned from his post as football coach, St. George’s athletics director Michelle York confirmed to The Commercial Appeal on Tuesday afternoon. Lott will also step down from his position as assistant athletics director but will remain as a faculty member.  

Lott, a former Tennessee football star, took over the program in May 2018 after being promoted from an assistant coach. He had been an assistant since 2015. 

Lott led the Gryphons to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, advancing past the first round in 2018 and 2019.  Lott failed to reach the playoffs the past two seasons, winning just three games in both. The Gryphons never won a region title under Lott.

Despite reaching the playoffs three times, Lott never had a winning season. His best season coming in Year 1, going 5-7 in 2017. He finished with a 17-32 record at St. George’s.  

Lott graduated from Melrose and played football for the Vols. He was drafted by the Washington NFL franchise in the 2002. He had a five-year NFL career, playing for the San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
