Three County Teams Ranked In First Prep AP Poll Of 2023

The first Tennessee Prep Football AP poll of 2023 had a distinct Carter County flavor on Tuesday.

Cloudland, Hampton, and Elizabethton were all ranked inside the Top 10 in their respective classes in the first AP poll of the season.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton tied with Perl-Cohn for the No. 3 spot. Elizabethton recorded 129 points in the poll – just eight points behind No. 2 Anderson County – after dispatching Science Hill on Friday.

Greeneville claimed the top spot with 162 points.

In Class 2A, Hampton came in at the No. 4 spot. The Bulldogs recorded 97 points along with a first-place vote in this week’s poll.

Riverside, Milan, and Huntingdon were ranked in the top three spots, while York Institute checked in at No. 5.

In Class A, Cloudland was voted eighth after tallying 48 points. The ‘Landers were just five points off No. 7 Gordonsville and 21 points off of No. 6 Union City.

McKenzie was ranked No. 1 in the poll, while South Pittsburg, Dresden, Coalfield, and Whitwell rounded out the top five.
