Lausanne Collegiate School has named its new basketball coach. Idris Harper will take over the program after Marvis Davis stepped down to take the Germantown Municipal School District athletic director job this summer.

"I liked him and I thought from a philosophy standpoint and the way he likes to coach, it matched who we were as a school and matched who I am as the athletic director and football coach," athletic director Kevin Locastro said.

Harper moves to Lausanne after coaching at Trezevant the past five seasons, where he was 35-63 and didn't get past the Region 7-AA quarterfinals.

"Just the history of the school, it's a great opportunity to advance in coaching," Harper said of why he took the job. "The family atmosphere there and the winning tradition, it was a no-brainer when the opportunity came."

Davis, who coached at Lausanne for nine seasons, led the Lynx to a state championship in the 2019-20 season and won five region championships and nine district championships during his tenure.

Locastro has faith the program won't drop off under Harper.

"For us, it's not only about winning games, it's about relationships and rapport with the boys that they're coaching, being very transparent with our families about what we do and how we do things," Locastro said. "I felt like he was a guy that fit those molds and I feel like the expectations are for him, to not only continue what Marvis has done but try and take it to another level."
