Playoffs begin for Tennessee High School Football

Marion County’s defense had to step up big on Friday night. The Warriors, ranked No. 2 in 2A, picked up a 21-7 TSSAA first-round playoff win over Westmoreland.

Tilton Pickett was 7-of-11 passing for 100 yards and a second-quarter touchdown to Sam Pickett. The Warriors added two third-quarter scores, one from E.J. Wilson, who ran five times for 83 yards, and Sam Pickett added 116 total yards and a rushing touchdown.

Marion County has another tough test in the second round as they host 10-1 East Robertson.

The top-ranked 1A team, South Pittsburg Pirates, rocked Jo Byrns, 63-0.

Jamarion Farrior, who was named a Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award semifinalist on Thursday, ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns, and he also returned an interception 28 yards for a score.

Kamden Wellington, also a Mr. Football semifinalist, connected on nine of 10 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns and also ran three times for 33 yards and a score.

South Pittsburg will host Clay County (7-4) next week.

 

The Whitwell Tigers beat Red Boiling Springs 55-12 win in the first round.

Eighth-ranked Whitwell (8-3) led 28-0 at halftime and cruised to the victory.

The Tigers will travel to Gordonsville (7-4) in the second round.

 

Sequatchie County (7-4) got two touchdown runs from freshman Kason Hicks in Friday’s 30-26 win over Tyner in the first round of the TSSAA Class 3A playoffs.

Junior quarterback Sam Evitts had another solid game with two TD passes.

In another Class 3A playoff game, Meigs County hosted Grundy County and ended the Yellowjackets season 50-8. The Indians will travel to Meigs County for round two.

 

Bledsoe County powered past South Greene 42 21. The Warriors (8-2) never trailed and will travel to Hampton (9-2) for a second-round matchup.

 

In the regular season finally, Pisgah, AL (9-1) knocked off the Noth Jackson Chiefs (4-6), 50-24.

 

The Chiefs travel to Haleyville, AL (7-3) for the first round of the Alabama High School playoffs on Friday.
