Henry County High School cross country runner Disha Patel ran in the TSSAA State Cross Country Championship Nov. 2-3 in Hendersonville.
Patel, who joined the HCHS cross country team for the first time this year, had qualified for state by finishing among the top qualifiers at the regional tournament.
Henry County cross country coach Stephanie Winders said the state course was at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville, with the 5K course consisting of two large hilly laps.
“The weather was perfect for the large school division (AAA) race and the field was super fast,” said Winders.
Patel finished 179th among a field of more than 200 runners.
“Disha didn't get overwhelmed with the field or the state atmosphere; she just focused on running a great race,” Winders said.
She ran her best time of the season at 23 minutes and 24 seconds.
“Disha finished the season knowing she gave her best effort, and her daily hard work paid off. Disha has been a pleasure to coach with her positive attitude and pushing herself at practices. I am super proud of Disha, along with many others. She represented Henry County High School very well,” Winders said.
