Brentwood Academy didn’t have to look far to find its new head coach. The Eagles announced Thursday morning that they hired DCA coach Paul Wade to lead the program.
Wade replaces Jacob Gill who resigned after just one season with the Eagles.
Paul Wade has been a long-time staple of Division II football here in Middle Tennessee. He had coaching stints at CPA, Davidson Academy, DCA, and Ensworth.
Wade is a four-time state champion head coach leading Davidson Academy to three (2005, 2006, 2008) and DCA to one (2021). He was also an assistant coach at Ensworth during the Tigers’ run of four straight titles from 2010-2013.
As a head coach, Wade’s compiled an overall record of 98-43. From 2004-2009 at Davidson Academy Wade went 53-17. In his first year at DCA, the Wildcats went 0-10. He quickly turned the program around going 8-4 in 2019, 11-1 in 2020 and 12-1 in 2021 winning the DII-A championship.
In his six years leading the Wildcats, Wade compiled a record of 45-26 with five postseason appearances. Aside from the one winless season in 2018, Wade has been to the postseason as a head coach or assistant coach every year.
He’s also developed and coached some of the best talent around coaching 20 Mr. Football finalists and seven winners.
Wade takes over a Brentwood Academy program coming off its worst season since 1972. The Eagles finished the 2023 season 2-10. They were knocked out of the postseason in the first round by eventual DII-AAA champion McCallie 49-10.
Despite the struggles the Eagles may have had in 2023, Wade takes over a roster full of talent. The Eagles will be led by five-star quarterback George MacIntyre. He’ll have talented weapons to work with such as Shavar Young and T.T. Hill.
