Cocke County senior wrestler Cris Flockhart relishes in the moment after defeating Gibbs’ Jalen Wright in the heavyweight sectional finals on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tenn. With the win, Flockhart became the first CCHS wrestler in program history to place first in a sectional.

CORRYTON — Cris Flockhart picked himself up off the mat Saturday, then looked up to a bright spotlight in the gym at Gibbs High School.

Flockhart embraced the moment, tucking his thumbs into each side of his pristine white “100 wins” singlet to pop the Cocke County logo — one small celebration after beating his fellow heavyweight finalist, Gibbs wrestler Jalen Wright, by a score of 4-1 to become the first sectional tournament champion in CCHS wrestling history.
