Hampton Falls In District 1-2A OT Heartbreaker

Hampton dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs saw West Greene hit a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left in overtime to take a 64-62 win in the Region 1-2A Consolation Game at Daniel Boone.

With the result, Hampton will open the Region 1-2A tournament on Saturday night at Alcoa.

The opening quarter saw Hampton take the early momentum.

Hayden Campell scored eight points early on while Geno Carrico added six first-quarter points as the Bulldogs took a 20-10 lead after a quarter of play.

West Greene, however, battled back in the second quarter as the Buffaloes trimmed the Hampton lead to four points as the Bulldogs held a 31-27 halftime lead.

The second half continued to be a back-and-forth battle. Dylan Trivett scored five third-quarter points to lead a balanced Hampton attack in the quarter, and HHS held a 46-40 advantage after three complete quarters.

In the fourth quarter, the teams traded buckets for much of the quarter. Braden McCamey hit a 3-pointer to give WG the lead in the closing minute, but Carrico answered on the other end to force overtime.

In the extra period, West Greene jumped out early, but Hampton battled back to tie things up setting the stage for Brocke Winstead to hit two free throws with 17 seconds left to lift West Greene to the win.

Campbell had 17 points to lead Hampton, while Carrico had 16 points. Michael Anspaugh had 13 points for the Bulldogs.

McCamey had 18 points to lead West Greene, while Connor Campbell scored 17 points.
