Lady Bulldogs See Season End In Region 1-2A Semifinals

Hampton came up short on Monday night.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 70-45 decision to Gatlinburg-Pittman in the Region 1-2A Semifinals at Alcoa on Monday night. The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak by Hampton and brought the Lady Bulldogs’ season to a close.

After GP opened the scoring, Macy Henry hit a jumper for HHS, but the Lady Highlanders reeled off the next nine points to take a 12-2 lead with just over three minutes to play in the first. Henry stopped the run with a pair of free throws, while Hannah Smith and Faye Carrico hit shots as Hampton trailed 17-8 after a quarter of play.

Hampton took the momentum to open the second quarter as Taylor Berry hit an early jumper. The teams traded shots before Berry went on a 9-1 run to pull Hampton within one.

After a GP jumper, Smith knocked down a trey to tie the game up at 24-24 with 3:18 left in the half. Gatlinburg-Pittman, however, ended the half on a 12-0 run to take a 36-24 advantage into the half.

The teams traded shots to open the third quarter as Henry and Carrico knocked down shots for the Lady Bulldogs. Piper Helle sparked a 6-2 Hampton run, but GP scored the next seven points to push the lead to 53-35 at the end of the third.

Hampton continued to battle but was unable to rally in the closing quarter.

Berry led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points, while Smith finished with 10 points. Carrico scored eight points, while Henry tallied seven points.
