Lady Cyclones Come Up Short In Region 1-3A Championship Game

Elizabethton was unable to hold off a Greeneville charge on Wednesday night.

The Lady Cyclones dropped a hard-fought 71-59 decision to the Lady Greene Devils in the Region 1-3A Championship game at Claiborne County.

With the result, Elizabethton will travel to Cocke County for the Class 3A Sectional on Saturday night.

It was a back-and-forth battle.

The teams traded shots in the opening quarter before Elizabethton used a 5-0 run to take an 11-8 lead midway through the quarter. EHS led 18-17 at the end of the first quarter.

After Greeneville regained the lead, Elizabethton battled back once again to take a 34-29 lead at the half.

The Lady Cyclones continued to battle, but Greeneville was able to regain the lead early in the third and were able to hold a 54-50 lead after three complete quarters.

In the fourth quarter, EHS continued to fight.

However, EHS was unable to run past the Lady Greene Devils to take the win.

Peyton McGee led Elizabethton with 19 points, while Reiley Whitson ended the game with 15 points. Marlee Mathena scored 11 points.

Kayelyn Nave and Michelle Shields had eight and six points, respectively.

Shields and Mathena were named to the All-Tournament team.

Abby Adkins led Greeneville with 23 points, while Maria Lyde had 15 points.
