CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – On Thursday night, the Rossview High boys’ basketball team traveled to Northwest High School where they met the Dickson County Cougars for a regional championship matchup.

This was the second consecutive season the two sides met in the regional championship and in both games, the Rossview Hawks walked away victorious, this time by a score of 71-54.

The Hawks set the tone early on in the game with their defensive play, holding the Cougars to only 4 points in the first quarter and leading them 35-18 at halftime. Rossview High head coach Johnny Jackson says the intensity started with the senior leaders on his squad.

“I held them back after film and I told them, ‘Hey, we have four of the best players in the region. There’s no reason we shouldn’t come out and win this thing.’ From top to bottom, we defended well, and it created easy opportunities for us offensively,” Jackson said.

Rossview High senior forward Jacob Edwards led his team in scoring on the night with 16 points, while the true star of the show was Quamond Linsey, who was named region 7-4A tournament MVP. Linsey scored 14 or more points in each region tournament game, in addition to finding open teammates in the open floor.

With their win, Rossview High will host a section game against Cordova High, who is currently ranked number two in the state. The Hawks have been at the doorstep of state for the past two years but have fallen just short each time. However, Rossivew is hungry for another opportunity.

“Cordova has two of the best guards in the state, they’re a great team,” Jackson said. “We know we have a tall task ahead of us, but our guys are battle tested. I hope the city of Clarksville comes out and supports us for the chance at a team from the city advancing.”

Rossview High boys’ basketball will take on Cordova High at home on Monday, March 4, at 7 p.m. as their postseason journey continues.
