The Middle Tennessee Christian volleyball program became one of the state's top programs while coach Troy Berry was at the helm.

Now the school is seeking his replacement after Berry announced his resignation as Lady Cougar head coach after nine seasons.

Berry will remain with the school in his role as information technology specialist and will take on a bigger administrative role within the athletic department, assisting with TSSAA compliance and eligibility.

"Serving as the volleyball coach at MTCS has truly been one of the greatest blessings of my life," Berry said in a release. "I am so proud to see how our school community has and continues to embrace our volleyball program and to be a part of its tremendous growth over the last decade. It has been an honor to work alongside so many outstanding athletes, coaches, administrators, and support staff members.

"Stepping away from this role is a very difficult, bittersweet decision, but this transition will allow me the flexibility I desire to pursue long term career goals and other professional interests off the court."

Assistant coach Nicole Burks has taken over the Lady Cougar program in an interim role while the school searches for its next head coach.

Berry has the most wins in program history, going 253-92. He led the team to back to back TSSAA DII-A semifinal appearances in 2022 and 2023.

MTCS went 42-5 this past season, falling to St. George's in the state tournament losers bracket finals after going 34-11 in 2023, falling to Goodpasture in the losers bracket finals.

"We appreciate all the hard work and dedication Coach Berry has put into MTCS Volleyball over the past decade," MTCS athletic director Jason Piercey said. "Although he has made the decision to step away from his coaching role, we are confident that Coach Berry will continue to be an asset to our athletic department in his new administrative role.”
