Monday Round-up: Unaka Softball, HV Baseball Take Opening Day Wins

Unaka 11, Happy Valley 1
The Lady Rangers saw the bats come alive in the third and propel them to a county win on opening day.

After HV took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Unaka plated three runs in the home side of the third, five runs in the fourth, and three more runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Taylor Grindstaff went 3-for-3 to lead the way for Unaka, while Mattie Salyer and Haley Taylor were 2-for-3 at the plate.

Gracie Stout allowed one earned run on seven hits in the pitching circle to pick up the win.

Aleah Grindstaff and Makayla Miller each went 2-for-3 at the plate for HV.

Happy Valley 14, Unaka 2
The Warriors answered two early Unaka runs and never looked to take an opening-day win.

Unaka plated two runs in the top of the first to open the game. However, HV countered with three in the home side of the frame to take a 3-2 lead.

The Warriors added to the lead in the bottom of the second and were able to keep Unaka at bay to take the win.

Tucker Shoun recorded 12 strikeouts as he allowed just one earned run on five hits on the mound, while also going 2-for-3 at the plate. Cade Kendall added two hits for the HV cause.

Cameron Prince and Robert Humphrey each led Unaka with two hits while Connor Vines had two RBI.

Elizabethton 6, Eagleton Academy 0
The Cyclones shut out Eagleton for a win on Monday.

Blaine Tolley was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Logan Campbell scored four runs for the Orange and Black.

Seth Holly had two RBI, while Elijah Ambrose also added an RBI.

Jeriah Griffin picked up the win as he struck out five batters in three innings of work and allowed just one hit. Holly struck out four batters in three innings of work.
