Baylor School announced that varsity basketball coach Mark Price will be stepping aside from his 26-year coaching career at the collegiate and high school levels to exclusively serve in his current role as the school’s full-time athletic director. A search will begin immediately for his replacement as the head basketball coach.

“As the school continues to develop a campus master plan that includes ambitious facilities improvements and a focus on the continued growth and success of our nationally recognized program, Mark’s responsibilities will be increasing. I always refer to him as ‘the head coach of the head coaches’ and I am grateful we have a man with his expertise and character to lead our athletic program,” said Head of School Chris Angel ’89.

Price was named varsity basketball coach in 2018 and accepted the additional role of athletic director in 2020, where he has been responsible for overseeing a department of 26 varsity Upper School teams and their head coaches.

As a coach for the Red Raiders, his basketball teams established a 107-45 record while advancing twice to the TSSAA Final Four and captured the Chattanooga Best of Preps Tournament three times. His most recent 2023-24 squad finished with a 21-6 record and was ranked first in the MaxPreps TSSAA D-II AA in the final poll.

Prior to Baylor, Price coached men's college basketball for 20 years. His longest stint was at Belmont University where he served as an assistant coach. During his tenure there, the Bruins went 144-55 and earned a berth in three NCAA Tournaments and three NITs while winning six consecutive conference championships.

"I am stepping aside from coaching with incredible gratitude for all of the players and coaches at Baylor and beyond that I have been blessed to work and compete with over the last 26 years. While I will miss coaching, the progression and upcoming growth for our Athletic Department, its facilities, teams, and coaches will require an enhanced administrative presence. I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve Baylor in this capacity."
