The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Santa Fe Wildcats 19-0 at home Tuesday for their first win of the season.

The Hornets’ first runs of the day came on a two-run single by Matthew Dickson in the bottom of the first, and Dickson later crossed home plate after Blaine Counts drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0 early.
Seven runs were scored for Huntland in the bottom of the second as Dickson got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to start the tally.
Landon Kerr drew a bases-loaded walk one batter later for an RBI, and Carter Walker scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-0 game.
A two-run single by Chandler Banks added further to the lead, and Counts and Banks both scored off of an error on a ball hit by Evan Keller to boost the early deficit up to 10-0.
The Hornets tacked on another four runs in the bottom of the third with Kerr and Keller both hitting RBI doubles while Carson Riley and Grant Jernigan contributed RBI singles to make it a 14-0 game.
A five-run fourth inning fully put the game out of reach as Keller hit a two-run single, Carson Riley and Kannon Lafevers both drew bases-loaded walks at various points in the frame, and RJ Martin got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the final run of the day.
The Wildcats were unable to score any runs in the top of the fifth as the Hornets secured an early shutout victory via the mercy rule.
Daltyn Howell pitched the first three innings for the Hornets with seven strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Lafevers and Luke Yarbrough pitched one inning each out of the bullpen with Lafevers having three strikeouts, no hits allowed and three walks issued while Yarbrough had three strikeouts, no hits allowed and one walk issued.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 1-1 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at Cornersville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
