CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy centerfielder Brennen Gibson has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week for his play at the plate, which included hitting a home run in his first at-bat of the 2024 season.

The Cougars baseball team is coming off a season where they compiled a record of 27-9 and looked to pick up right where they left off. Clarksville Academy faced off against the likes of Montgomery Central and Portland High during week 1 of the season.

During their first game with the Indians, the Cougars couldn’t have asked for a better start. After Clarksville Academy pitched a scoreless inning in the top of the first, Gibson came to the plate with zero on and one out.

After showcasing his patience in the batter’s box and working a 3-0 count, the junior centerfield blasted a solo home run to left field to put his team’s first run of the game and year on the scoreboard. However, due to a masterful starting pitching performance by Montgomery Centrals Gabrial Eddington, the Indians went on to win the game 3-2.

While his team lost in the end, Gibson finished the first game 2 for 3 with a home run, 1 walk, 1 run and 1 run batted in. Meanwhile, the junior proceeded to outdo himself in the following game against Portland High.

The matchup between the Cougars and Panthers was another low scoring affair but this time, Clarksville Academy held on to win the game by a score of 3-1. Gibson accounted for all three runs being scored after going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

In total, Gibson hit safely in five out of his six-at bats and blasted 1 home run, 2 doubles and knocked in 3 RBI’s.

“Brennen is a true team guy,” said Clarksville Academy head coach Dustin Smith. “He has really developed in the past few years, both physically and athletically. His work ethic has been second to none and developed him into a great hitter that can spark our team when needed.”
