0 0

A busy week of action in Murfreesboro saw 10 local teams with the opportunity to compete for state titles. Ultimately one came out on top.

Independence ends the year as our top-ranked overall team after the Eagles beat Cookeville for the Class 4A state title. Here’s who follows them.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.

Rankings are based on overall success and current form for each teams. While teams may have beaten each other earlier in the season, we look at the current form of teams compared to each other.

With that in mind, here’s a look at this week’s 615 Preps large and small class boys rankings:

Large Class

1. Independence (32-6): The wait is finally over for the Eagles as they beat La Vergne (88-74), Rossview 65-53 and Cookeville (53-44) to win their first state title. Jett Montgomery was named the tournament MVP after averaging 25.7 points in the three games including a game-high 28 points in the championship.

2. Pope John Paul II (26-5): The Knights lost to Briarcrest Christian 76-53 in the Division II-AA state semifinals.

4. Rossview (25-10): The Hawks won their first ever state tournament game against Morristown East cruising to the 64-43 win. In a highly-anticipated semifinals matchup with Independence, Jacob Edwards scored a game-high 30 points but it wasn’t enough to beat the Eagles.

5. Brentwood (20-13): In a game where many saw the Bruins completely outmatched, Brentwood pushed top-ranked Bartlett to end before losing 51-45. Daniel Cochran closed out his high school career with a game-high 21 points.
