After a year in which he helped the Siegel girls basketball program fill a head coaching void in a pinch, Raymond Shutt is returning to the school's boys basketball staff.

That leaves the Lady Stars seeking their fourth head coach in four years.

"It was a great experience," Shutt said. "It was very different than anything I had done in my coaching career. Mr. Creasy needed me to step in and coach the girls this year and I think we made great strides and are leaving the program in a great spot."

Shutt took the job when it opened last summer, but decided to go back to being an assistant under boys coach Matt Rigsby, where he served before taking over the girls' position.

"I want to thank Coach Shutt for his willingness to take over the girls basketball program last summer," Siegel principal Larry Creasy said. "He did us a huge favor because of the poor timing of the position opening. I did not feel like at the time we could perform an adequate search and I knew we had a really good young coach in house."

Shutt guided the Lady Stars to a 9-19 record but hovered around .500 most of the season until injuries took their toll during a nine-game losing streak to end the season.

"Coach Shutt did a great job with our girls program this year," Creasy said. "I saw growth and improvement in our team. I would have liked to see what this team would have accomplished had it not been for the injury bug."

Shutt replaced Shane Young, who spent one season at the helm after having replaced Shawn Middleton.

Jones takes over Stewarts Creek boys basketball

Stewarts Creek found its next boys coach internally, as Adam Jones was named Lady Red Hawks coach last week.

Jones most recently served as an assistant under Matt Bradshaw, who left the Red Hawks recently after two seasons to take over as athletic director at Mt. Juliet Christian.
