Monday Round-up: Bulldogs Rally For Win; Lady Cyclones, Lady Rangers Pull Away For Wins

Hampton 8, Johnson County 7
Hampton rallied in a big way on Monday night.

It was Hampton’s third win out of four contests against Johnson County.

The Bulldogs entered the seventh inning down 6-2, but scored six runs in the visiting side of the final inning to take an 8-6 advantage. Johnson County was able to get a run back, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.

Jayden Kuhn and Elisha Henson each had two hits for the Bulldogs, while Chance Point, Noah Nichols, and Gabriel Lyons each added a hit.

Lyons also had two RBI.

On the mound, Kuhn pitched seven innings for the win as he allowed just one earned run on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Kayden Blevins led Johnson County with two hits and two runs scored.

Unicoi County 5, Elizabethton 2
The Cyclones came up short on the road Monday evening.

Unicoi opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. After Elizabethton tied it in the top of the third when Bryson Rowland hit a double to score JD Hooks, Unicoi was able to respond in the bottom of the frame with three more runs to regain the lead.

Jack Blevins pushed Brayden Buckles across the plate to get a run back in the top of the fourth for Elizabethton, but the Cyclones were unable to rally back past the Blue Devils.

Jeriah Griffin, Blevins, Buckles and Rowland each had a hit for EHS.

On the mound, Rhett Slagle allowed just four earned runs on five hits in three innings of work, while Justin Whitehead allowed one earned run on two hits in three innings of relief.

Softball
Elizabethton 12, Gate City (Va.) 1
The Lady Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back.

EHS plated five runs in the home side of the first and added three more in the bottom of the third. After Gate City got on the board in the top of the fourth with a single run, EHS left no doubt with a four-run fourth inning.

Mollie Johnson was 3-for-4, while Sadie Williams, Lela Byrd, and Addy Campbell each had two RBI.

Mikinna Blackwell, Williams, and Byrd each recorded home runs.

In the pitching circle, Byrd allowed just one earned run on one hit with seven strikeouts.

Unaka 19, University High 4
The Lady Rangers used a big second inning to pull away and never look back.

After entering the home side of the second tied at 2-2, Unaka erupted for 13 runs to pull away and take the win.

Jill Faust was 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Taylor Grindstaff added two hits and four RBI. Mollie Buckles added three hits.

Gracie Stout and Katlyn Dugger each added two RBI.

In the pitching circle, Stout allowed just four earned runs on eight hits.

Avery County (N.C.) 13, Hampton 10
The Lady Bulldogs came up short on Monday.

Hampton was unable to rally in the final inning in a back-and-forth battle that saw the teams combine for 23 runs and 30 hits.

Mallory Lamb was 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Briley Davis was 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Lady Bulldogs. Lacie Smith added two hits and two RBI.

Hannah Smith, Maleah Scalf, Emma Hughes and Dru Nickles each added hits.

In the pitching circle, Davis struck out eight batters.
