The Franklin County Rebels beat the East Hamilton Hurricanes 6-4 at home Monday for their second win of the season.
The teams traded runs in the first two innings with the Rebels securing an early advantage and holding onto it for the rest of the day.
The Hurricanes got the first run of the day as they scored once off of a sacrifice bunt in the top of the first.
The Rebels answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Sam Vincent drew a leadoff walk and stole two bases before racing home on an RBI groundout from Casen Gilliam.
The Hurricanes struck for another two runs in the top of the second, but the Rebels flipped the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as Gavin McBee walked, Caden Brown singled and Vincent got hit by a pitch to load the bases before an error on a ball hit by Gilliam brought all three runners around to score and gave Franklin County a 4-3 lead.
The Rebels added one run each in the next two innings as Taylor Austin hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third and Vincent scored off of a throwing error after stealing two more bases to make it a 6-3 game.
The Hurricanes were able to push a run across in the top of the sixth to cut the lead back down to two, but Franklin County pitcher Josiah Cullins was able to end the inning with a strikeout after the bases were loaded later in the frame.
The lights at the Gamble Sports Complex unexpectedly went out during the top of the seventh, and power couldn’t be restored to them in a timely manner, cutting the contest short and giving the Rebels a two-run victory.
Gus Gardner pitched the first 5 1-3 innings for the Rebels with seven strikeouts, eight hits, one walk, two earned runs and two unearned runs allowed for the win.
Cullins recorded a save out of the bullpen with two outs recorded on strikeouts, one walk issued and no hits or runs allowed.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 2-5 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Wilson Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
