Tullahoma High School baseball team hosted Shelbyville Tuesday and won 5-4 on a Cade Fanning walk off single in the eighth inning.
The ‘Cats held a 4-0 lead after four innings, but Shelbyville fought back and tied the game up at 4-4 in the seventh inning to extend the game. Colton Emory drew a walk to start the bottom half of the eighth. Baylan Tuten sacrifice bunted to move Emory into scoring position with one out. The Eagles intentionally walked Mason Bratcher and Derek Nolasco to load the bases. Fanning lined the ball into right field, scoring Emory and ending the game.
Tuten started on the bump for Tullahoma and pitched six innings. He struck out 12 batters, gave up just three hits and only walked one batter. Bratcher took over in the seventh inning and finished out the game for the Wildcats. He gave up just three hits and walked only one batter.
Andrew Fulmer led the Tullahoma offense going 3-for-4 at the plate. He had a single, double and triple in the game. Evan Tomin, Hunter Hogan and Fanning had the only other hits for Tullahoma. Trevor Cole led the team with two RBI. He picked them up on a ground ball in the second inning. Fanning, Tomlin and Fulmer had the other RBI in the game.
The win moved the Wildcats record to 6-2 on the season. The team won five straight games after dropping the opener. They beat Mount Juliet 7-1, Blackman 2-1, Oakland 9-2, Middle Tennessee Christian School 10-4 and Riverdale 2-1. The 10-4 win over MTCS was head coach Bryan Morris’ 100 career win. The streak ended with a heartbreaking loss to Lincoln County Monday 4-3.
During the stretch of games Tuten had six hits and seven RBI. Tomlin hit the first Home Run for the ‘Cats in the win over MTCS. He racked up six hits and five RBI in the stretch. Jayron Morris picked up a pitching win, four hits and two RBI.
Tullahoma hosts Franklin County Monday, first pitch is at 6 p.m. They will go to Franklin County on Tuesday with the same start time. Those are the Wildcats first two district games of the season.
