Lincoln County’s Ben Davis worked the bump three and one-third innings in the Falcons district match-up at home with Shelbyville. Davis gave up two hits, two earned runs, and recorded eight strikeouts in the outing. It was a hitting battle for both teams. The Falcons finished with the win, 13-10.
Last week was a prosperous one for Lincoln County baseball. The Falcons won four of their five games including a 2-0 sweep of district foe Shelbyville.
It all began on March 25 with a home game against Shelbyville. The game lasted nearly three hours as both teams combined for 23 runs and 22 hits. Lincoln County came out on top, 13-10.
Lincoln County and Shelbyville each bashed two home runs. For the Falcons, it was two sophomores. The first was a three-run shot by Rhett Persell in the second inning.
Ian Weaver recorded an inside the park home run on the very next at bat, although in the scorebook it went down as a triple with a throwing error.
Weaver left no doubt the next inning when he blasted one to left field, notching his first homerun of his high school career.
The next night Lincoln County traveled to Shelbyville and won 11-4, sweeping the regular season series. The Falcons finished the week winning two of their three games in Hoover, Alabama.
Overall Lincoln County finished 4-1 last week and outscored those opponents, 49-26. This week is set for four games as the Falcons record stands at 9-6.
