After more than a week off, Walker Valley returned to the District 5-AAA soccer schedule Friday with a shutout of Rhea County, at "The Corral."
Bouncing back from an 0-3 start to the campaign, the Mustangs notched their sixth straight victory with the 4-0 over the boys from Evensville.
Along with a 7-0 thumping of McMinn County, Walker Valley has yet to give up a goal to a district opponent, with only Cleveland (3-5) left in regular season league play on April 18.
The Mustangs will galop down I-75 Tuesday to take on Ooltewah (0-6) before returning home to welcome East Hamilton (2-4).
It didn't take long to get the scoring going with senior Jake Arntz taking an assist from junior Alex Lakatosh just five minutes into the match.
Four minutes later, senior Graham Delmotte was fouled inside "the 18," resulting in a penalty kick, which was put away by classmate Grey Davies.
Taking a 2-0 edge into the intermission, the second half remained in the Mustangs favor as Lakatosh delivered his second assist of the night only 40 seconds after kickoff. The third goal came from Graham Delmotte, who made a 50 yard sprint to deliver a one touch finish off of Lakatosh’s cross.
The final Mustang goal came in the 47th minute by Arntz again after receiving a perfectly timed pass by junior Stone Davies.
Walker Valley goalkeeper Jason Osorio had four saves in the night, adding a fifth shutout to the Mustang’s season.
