A furious Elizabethton softball rally came up short on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Cyclones rallied late but dripped a 5-4 decision to Lee (Va.) in Elizabethton.

After the Generals took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, EHS was able to load the bases in the home side of the frame but was unable to plate a run.

Neither team was able to get on the board until Lee added a run in the top of the sixth.

The Lady Cyclones, however, weren’t going to go quietly.

Mollie Johnson hit a double to left field that scored P Bennett. The EHS defense kept Lee from adding a run in the top of the seventh.

Macie Reed scored off an Elizabethton single and Piper Bennett knocked a double to left field to plate Jozey Reece and Ava Kellerman that closed the EHS deficit to one.

The Lady Cyclones, however, were unable to keep the rally going.

Johnson went 3-of-4 with an RBI, while Bennett added a double and two RBI. McDuffie tallied a hit and an RBI.

Addy Heading and Reece each added a hit.

McDuffie allowed just one earned run on seven hits with two strikeouts in the circle.
