The Livingston Academy softball team celebrated senior night before the game against White County on Monday, April 15.
The Lady Cats went on to lose 5 to 4 after playing eight innings.
The team took the lead at the bottom of the sixth with Bailey Hutchison homering to center field and scoring three runs.
White County singled in the top of the seventh, tieing the game. They then singled in the top of the eighth, scoring one run, and an error followed extending the lead 5 to 3.
Sabrina Garrett pitched for the team and allowed seven hits and five runs, striking out and walking 6 respectively.
Sophomore Jaycee Collins said, “As a team I think that was the best we have played yet. Our defense was doing pretty good, just a couple of mistakes. Our offense started late and not until the 4th inning, but after that we were lighting up the ball! I feel if we would’ve hit in the first three innings we would have pulled out the win. Also, everyone was talking and uplifting everyone and I think that helped alot!”
The team faced-off against Stone Memorial on Tuesday, April 16 in a tough fight losing 2 to 1.
Both teams were strong pitching, but Stone was just a hair stronger at the plate.
Hutchison, Kendall Simpson, and Calla Pierce each collected one hit for the team.
Sophomore Bailey Hutchison said, “I feel like our past two games we have improved quite a bit, physically and mentally. Both games we never let up. If we all hold together and work together as a team, I feel like we have a chance to beat DeKalb County.”
The Lady Cats next faced DeKalb County on Thursday, April 18, losing 11 to 3.
The team also headed to Kentucky for the Battle at the Border and played against Russell County, KY, and Cumberland County, KY. The team was beaten 9 to 2 and 8 to 0 respectively.
Head Coach Kacy Bennett said, “The girls understand it is a process. We’ve improved greatly and will continue to do so. We’re excited for every game we get to play.”
