The Franklin County High School boys soccer team played the Giles County Bobcats to a 2-2 draw on the road Tuesday for the team’s second tie of the season.
Franklin County held a slight lead late in the contest, but the Bobcats found an equalizer in the final minutes to force a draw in the district matchup.
The first goal of the day came about 15 minutes into the contest as Loui Arellano redirected a corner kick from Isreal Mendez into the net with a header to give Franklin County an early edge. It was the second goal of the season for Arellano.
Franklin County led 1-0 at halftime.
The Bobcats fought back early in the second half as they scored off of a free kick to tie the game at 1-1 about seven minutes into the period.
The tie would be broken with about 15 minutes remaining as Alex DeWolfe fired a shot into the net from the top of the goal box to give Franklin County a late 2-1 advantage on his first goal of the year.
The intensity of the game picked up from there as the Bobcats were issued several yellow cards down the stretch as they tried to get back into the game.
The Bobcats’ pressure payed off with about two minutes remaining as they broke through Franklin County’s defense and scored a game-tying goal.
Neither team would be able to score again in the limited time remaining as the game ended in a tie.
With the draw, Franklin County moved to 5-4-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in district play.
The boys soccer team will next play Friday at home against Forrest High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
