CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central Indians hosted the county high school flag football championship against the West Creek Coyotes, a rematch of the championship game last year, that the Coyotes won. A back-and-forth game, packed with loud fans from both teams, ended with a game-sealing interception by Audrey Levendusky, and Central got their revenge, winning 14-6.

Early on, neither team was able to move the ball. Both defenses were able to make amazing tackles and keep both teams out of the endzone the first four drives. West Creek broke the tie with a Madison Bennet touchdown, and Central responded with a touchdown right before the half, along with converting the one point try to take the lead, 7-6 going into half.

Central head coach Billy Youndquist knew the game was going to be a battle from the start.

“There were two great teams out there today, it was a fantastic game,” said Youndquist. “Our girls got down early, but kept their heads up and fought.”

Katarina Vidovic would make a Randy Moss-esque catch over two West Creek defenders in the end-zone late in the second half to pull ahead by eight. The Coyotes would get the ball back with a minute and thirty seconds left, needing a score. Enter quarterback Kinleigh Lewis, who threw an absolute rope for a 40 yard catch, putting the Coyotes in scoring position. Coyotes head coach Aaron King says that is an example of how special this team is.

“This season is special in its own way, don’t get it twisted,” said King. “This team is one of one, we had a lot of promise and executed on a lot of that promise. It’s tough to lose that one, but they’ve got a great team, and something tells me this rivalry will be good for a couple years.”

The very next play, Audrey Levendusky would come across the field and snag the game winning interception. A couple of kneel downs later, and Central claimed their first county flag championship in school history.

“This team went through so much adversity,” said Youndquist. “We had games where we were challenged, but we never gave up. They fought through that, and I could not be more proud.”
