The Tullahoma High School baseball team obliterated the Community Vikings 14-1 Friday night to end the regular season.
Before the action, the ‘Cats celebrated their seven senior players. Cade Fanning, Avery Smith, Jayron Morris, Evan Tomlin, Colton Emory, Bobby Nichols and Derek Nolasco. The group ends the regular season with 102 wins throughout their career.
Nichols started on the mound for Tullahoma and picked up a three-up, three-down first inning. The Wildcats offense had five hits in a row to begin the bottom of the first. Tomlin hit a sacrifice fly for the first out, then Smith recorded the sixth hit of the inning for the ‘Cats making it 5-0. The Vikings scored their only run in the second inning with two outs. The Wildcats did not score again until the third inning. Smith picked up another RBI on a ground ball and then reached on an error. Tullahoma added two more runs in the inning to go up 8-1. After a quick top of the fourth, the ‘Cats scored six runs. They started with fourth straight hits, including an inside the park home run by Fanning.
Tullahoma had 11 hits in four innings of play. Fanning, Emory, Tomlin and Morris had two hits each. Nichols, Smith and Andrew Fulmer had the other three hits. Fanning, Emory and Morris had extra base hits. Fanning had an inside the park homer, Emory had a triple in the fourth and Morris had two doubles. Nolasco drew the only two walks for the ‘Cats. Smith, Nichols, Nolasco and Morris each had a stolen base. Nolasco and Philip Lemmon had a sacrifice fly.
Nichols pitched 4.1 innings. He threw 67 pitches, 42 of them were strikes. Nichols struck out seven of the 18 batters he faced. Lukas Taylor faced the last two batters of the game and struck them out on eight pitches.
