Lady Wolves Blank Science Hill, Knock Lady ‘Toppers Down to Third Seed
West Ridge coach Bill Wagner was a longtime assistant at Daniel Boone and recently the Lady Wolves’ boss has implemented a pitching rotation akin to that of the Lady ‘Blazers.
Tuesday evening on one of the new artificial turf fields at Wing Deer Park, the tandem of Miranda Henley and Victoria Browder combined on a three-hit 3-0 shutout of Science Hill.
The defeat suffered by the Lady ‘Toppers (4-5, 18-8) combined with Dobyns-Bennett’s win over league champion Daniel Boone, knocked Science Hill from the second seed to the third seed and sets up a rematch with West Ridge (2-7, 22-15) in the first round of the District 1-AAAA Tournament Friday at Daniel Boone.
The game was scoreless to the fifth when Browder opened the frame with a single. Lacy Fugate’s bunt single sent courtesy runner Cassidy Good to third. Good scored on Kami Clark’s sacrifice bunt.
An inning later, Natalie Moore legged out a one-out triple and scored on a two-out double by Lily Frazier.
Lacey Fugate roped a solo homer in the seventh to provide the final margin. Fugate had the only two-hit effort of the day.
Henley started and worked the odd-numbered innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. Bowder retired all nine batters faced in the even-number frames.
