The Henry County High School Patriots dropped a tight game to district rivals Dickson County Thursday night but still have a path open to the District 14-4A championship title today at Henry County High School.
The Patriots will face the Northwest Varsity Vikings at 4:30 p.m. today at Henry County High School. The winner of that game will play the Dickson County Cougars at 7 p.m. for the District Championship.
In their first game of the tournament, the No. 1-seeded Patriots lost 5-4 to the No. 2-seeded Cougars Thursday at Henry County High School.
Pats Pitcher Truitt Webb struck out ten batters over four-and-one-third innings. He gave up one hit and two runs while walking six.
The two teams, who were 1-1 during regular season play, were tied at one run each and by the top of the second inning. The Cougars took the lead in the top of the fifth before Henry County made it a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth.
Both teams added two runs in the seventh inning, leave the score tied 4-4.
A single by Dickson County’s Ben Fisher gave the Cougars a 5-4 advantage at the top of the eighth inning. The Patriots had runners on first and second at the bottom of the inning when two strikeouts by the Cougars pitcher ended the game, advancing Dickson County to tonight’s district final.
